USBscope50 USB PC Oscilloscope

General Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Scope work well with USB1? Don't you need to use USB2?

USB1.1 is plenty fast enough for the USBscope50. We preferred USB1.1 over USB2 because USB1.1 is supported on more hardware platforms, and is lower power. If necessary, we may consider USB2 for future product designs.

Can I use x100 probes with my USBscope50?

Yes you can - but remember that the USBScope50 software won't compensate so you'll need to remember to adjust your readings accordingly.

What is the lower frequency response like, i.e. in the region 0.1Hz to 10,000Hz

The response in DC coupled mode is fine across that range. If the signal must be AC coupled inside the scope then the 3dB point is about 3.4Hz and runs up to the full 75MHz.

Can you synchronise multiple USBscopes to get phase data?

Yes you can, just like any other scope

Can I run more than one scope if they are not stacked together?

Yes, there is a mode called "MIS" (Multiple Independent Scope), where you can launch several copies of the application software and have each copy drive just one scope. In this mode, each scope works in a completely stand-alone way, and will also be isolated from any other scopes. The MIS mode requires that the scopes are not electrically stacked together using a stacking connector.

What is the smallest signal I can see with the scope?

With a x1 probe, signals below about 10mV are hard to see.

After installing USBscope50 Java Software I cannot run/detect USBscope50 with old Visual Basic software.

USBscope50 does not install correctly.

USBscope50 stopped working after I manually changed the COM port allocation on another device.

First, make sure you have the latest USBscope50 driver, go to Windows Device Manager and uninstall both the USBscope50 driver AND the driver for the USB device you manually changed the port allocation for. Then re-install the drivers for both devices (by disconnecting and re-connecting the hardware), making sure you install the USBscope50 drivers last. If that doesn't work, try re-installing the drivers for both devices again but in the other order.

I have downloaded the Visual Basic source code for the USB test and measurements project and am unable to run it from the source code - missing dll error.

Please try copying both CP210xMan.dll and USBwave12Drvr_W32.dll (or USBscope50Drvr_W32.dll, USBcount50Drvr_W32.dll, USBpulse100Drvr_W32.dll) to system32 folder or to the folder where you are running the VB project from.

USB Scope 50 won't null 2nd channel - I can only Null one channel.

Change the folder properties under the security tab to allow permission of full control to all users. Basically the problem is that the Scope software tries to write files, and Windows security settings do not give it permission. By editing the permissions and setting it to full control for all users, it will work correctly.
