Psion Dacom Gold Card Modem Fails to Communicate in Windows XP

The "Psion Dacom Gold Card Global 56K+Fax (V.90)" PCMCIA card PCMCIA may fail to communicate correctly in Windows XP with PSeries card readers.

The driver inf file for the card contains a registry key that causes the IRQ steering algorithm in the PSeries.sys driver to fail.

Work-Around

These work-arounds are for use with Elan P-series card readers operating in the Windows XP operating system only! There are two possible work around's to this problem, Method 1 is the preferred as it is the least complicated to instigate, but if this does not work then try Method 2.

Method 1

Install this registry setting for the PSeries driver, then reboot the PC and test the operation of the PCMCIA card. 
If this fails to rectify the problem, then reinstate the registry setting using this file and try "Method 2" below...

Method 2

Replace the mdmpsion.inf file in the c:\windows\inf folder with this one. Follow these simple steps to update the driver for the card in the Device Manager..."

Select the card and right click to open the properties box...

Select the "Driver" tab and click "Update driver..."

Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click "Next"

Select "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install" and click "Next"

Select "Psion Dacom Gold Card Global 56K+Fax (V.90)" (or your card type from the list) and click "Next"

As the driver file has been edited by Elan, it is no longer digitally signed. Click "Continue Anyway" otherwise the driver will not be updated!

Finally click "Finish" to complete the driver update.

Other Cards

Other PCMCIA Card Types may also be effected by this problem!

We have noticed that the problematic registry key is also set in the drivers for the following card types, so you may be experiencing similar problems. Elan have not tested these fixes, so please ensure you have made appropriate back ups of any files!....
